How competitive is the new Volkswagen ID.Cross compared to its Chinese rivals? I took the entry and mid retail prices of the ID.Cross and compared them to all the Chinese electric models available in the Italian market today. Unsurprisingly, the Volkswagen is quite expensive. Despite the company’s efforts to reduce the prices of its BEVs, we are not there yet. The ID.Cross is a B-SUV with 4,153 mm of length. The basic one is powered by an electric engine with 114 hp and a battery of 37 kWh capacity. It is €1,400 cheaper than the C-Hatch Leapmotor B05 with 215 hp and 67 kWh. The midpriced ID.Cross, called Life, has a retail price of €36,525, or €435 more than its direct rival B-SUV BYD Atto 2. Their price and specs are very similar. The problem is with the models from the other Chinese makers: for €525 euro less the consumer can buy the GWM Ora 5 that has similar tech specs but is 30 cm longer.
