🏎️⚙️ When Williams built a CVT F1 car so dominant that the FIA banned it before its first official race… In 1993, Williams took high-tech F1 innovation to the absolute extreme by equipping their FW15C with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Instead of traditional gear shifts, the Van Doorne push-belt system allowed the Renault V10 engine to sit at a constant, screeching peak horsepower RPM around the entire track. Williams FW15C CVT Highlights: Powerband: Kept the 780 HP Renault V10 pegged at max power (~13,800 RPM) continuously. Speed Advantage: Reportedly dropped several seconds off lap times during test runs with David Coulthard behind the wheel. Engine Tone: Produced a unique, unbroken high-pitch drone without any rev drops or gear changes. FIA Ban: Banned for 1994 when the FIA mandated cars must have 4 to 7 discrete fixed gears. It remains one of the most fascinating “what if” engineering projects in motorsport history. Do you think Formula 1 would be better today if technical regulations allow
