The Volkswagen Group before and after the pandemic, semiconductor shortage, energy crisis, price hikes, and China’s expansion. The German maker has sold 2 million fewer units, meaning that its global market share dropped from almost 12% in 2019 to less than 10% last year. Although it has slightly improved its position in Europe (a shrinking market), it has seen its sales tumble in China to the local rivals. Meanwhile in USA, the group continued to play a minor role. We should see a smaller but more efficient VW Group in the coming years thanks to the increasing collaboration with some Chinese OEMs. The presence in Europe is due to be reduced, while it faces increasing pressure in the developing markets like Brazil, Turkey, and India.
