⛽🇺🇸 Trump’s administration has finalized a major rollback of Biden-era fuel economy rules, with the projected 2031 fleet average dropping from roughly 50.4 MPG to 34.9 MPG. ⠀ The new standards give automakers more flexibility to sell gasoline-powered cars and trucks without having to pursue the same efficiency improvements required under the previous rules. ⠀ Federal estimates put automakers’ technology-cost savings at roughly $60.6 billion through 2031, including about $20.4 billion for GM, $6.6 billion for Stellantis and $5.8 billion for Ford. ⠀ The government estimates those lower compliance costs at roughly $1,289 per vehicle, while the administration separately says the changes should reduce average new-vehicle costs by around $1,300. ⠀ There is a trade-off, however, as federal analysis estimates drivers could spend more than $1,600 extra on fuel over a vehicle’s lifetime and total fuel consumption could rise about 4.6% through 2050. ⠀ The rule also eliminates CAFE credit trading beginning in model year
