Stellantis’ French premium brand is facing tough times. DS, which was created as a stand-alone brand in 2014, has been struggling to grab a decent piece of the big but competitive premium market in Europe. Last year, all of its models posted declines. DS sold approximately 33,500 units globally, its lowest annual figure since its creation. Part of the drop was related to its top-seller, the DS 7, which faced its last full year in the market under the first generation. Meanwhile the DS 3 got very old without a clear successor on the pipeline, and the DS 9 proved to be a big flop. The beautiful DS 4 also posted big drops as it got aged. The results should show a slight improvement this year thanks to the introduction of the second generation of the DS 7, the revamp of the DS 4 (now called No 4), and the timid results of the DS No 8. Should DS become a subbrand of Citroen again?
