The rapid expansion of Chinese automotive brands in Europe. In this case I'm using Quattroruote Professional's database to see the evolution of the number of Chinese car brands in Italy. In 2019 the consumers could only chose from two brands: DR Motor (which rebadges Chery models) and Haval. The post-pandemic years saw the arrival of 8 more brands but they were still a rarity in the streets. Back then, the Chinese makers were busy at home trying to catch up and take sales away from the foreign brands in China. Nevertheless, they never stoped coming to Europe. BYD was already available in September 2023, and Omoda Jaecoo arrived the following year. As of September 2026, the consumers in Italy can chose from 27 different brands, making of China the largest group by origin. More brands are expected in the coming months.
