🤝 Toyota is intentionally limiting the new GR GT to roughly 200–250 cars for the U.S. even though it already expects demand to be much higher. Toyota Senior VP Andrew Gilleland said the shortage is “by design,” making it clear this isn’t simply a production-capacity problem. The bigger reason is even more interesting: Toyota wants GR GTs going to enthusiasts who will actually drive them, not buyers looking to immediately flip them for profit. Toyota is reportedly prioritizing known GR customers and factory-curated buyer lists rather than simply letting every dealer sell cars first-come, first-served. And despite early reports claiming the first American allocation was already sold out, Toyota later clarified that final sales decisions have not been made and the GR GT is not officially sold out yet.
