😳 One in five drivers are choosing to switch off automatic emergency braking, even though the technology is specifically designed to prevent or reduce crashes. A new UK driver survey found that 21.3% avoid using AEB, while 25.9% of drivers with adaptive cruise control actively choose not to use it and another 7% admit they don’t know how it works. Lane-keeping assist isn’t popular either, with nearly 18% of respondents saying they actively avoid the feature. Drivers told researchers that some safety systems can feel overly aggressive or intrusive, and when the level of assistance can’t be adjusted, switching the system off completely may be the only option. The interesting part is that real-world crash data strongly supports AEB: IIHS research has found forward collision warning with automatic braking can cut rear-end crashes by roughly 50% and rear-end injury crashes by 56%.
