Days of Thunder is officially coming back, with Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway set to bring NASCAR back to the big screen in summer 2028. Cruise will reprise his iconic role as Cole Trickle nearly four decades after the original 1990 film became a cult favorite among racing fans. Hathaway is joining the sequel as a race-team owner and engineer, giving her character a direct role inside the competition rather than simply being along for the ride. Paramount has locked in a June 2, 2028 theatrical release, putting the sequel 38 years after the original movie. Cruise revealed the project at Daytona International Speedway during NASCAR’s Cup Series regular-season finale weekend, making the announcement right in the heart of stock-car racing. The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine from a screenplay by Will Staples, while Cruise and original Days of Thunder producer Jerry Bruckheimer are producing alongside Tommy Harper.
