Volkswagen has revealed the Mission Efficiency, a near-production electric prototype designed to push EV efficiency to an entirely new level. Volkswagen says the car has set three world records, including a drag coefficient of just 0.158, which it describes as a new benchmark for a road-approved vehicle. During an officially documented 1,278.36 km test drive, it averaged just 6.89 kWh/100 km excluding charging losses, or 7.51 kWh/100 km when charging losses were included. Under an ideal constant-speed test, consumption dropped even further to just 6.48 kWh/100 km. Despite the extreme numbers, the prototype uses a 54.9 kWh battery and 99 kW electric motor derived from the same MEB+ technology being developed for vehicles like the ID. Polo.
