During qualifying for the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Verstappen was on an incredible final Q3 lap and had gone fastest through the opening two sectors. He was more than two-tenths ahead of Lewis Hamilton before reaching the final corner at Jeddah. Verstappen locked the front-left tire, clipped the wall and was forced to abandon a lap that looked destined for pole position. The mistake left him third on the grid behind Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. After climbing out of the damaged Red Bull, Verstappen looked up at one of the circuit’s giant screens and saw his father Jos watching from the garage.
