Although most of the electric cars available in Europe are made locally, the largest part comes from outside the European Union. As of September 2026, a total of 134 pure electric models were produced within the EU. As expected, Germany made up almost one third of this total. France came second with 27 models produced there. Eastern Europe is currently making 26 electric models, leaving Italy and Spain behind. Nevertheless, more than half of the electric offer is coming from abroad. A total of 160 models are produced in factories outside the EU: 92 from China, 20 from South Korea, 11 from USA, 10 from Japan, 9 from the UK, 6 from Turkey, and 2 from Serbia, Turkey, Morocco, Mexico, India, Vietnam, each.
