The BMW Series 3 is now 51 years old and has just arrived to its 8th generation. That's an average of a bit more than 6 years per generation. It all started with the presentation of the E21 in July 1975 as the replacement of the BMW 02 Series, which was a range of sporty, compact, and executive cars available between 1966 and 1977. Years of success led to the 8th generation whose styling is based on the Neue Klasse design language. The interesting part is that the BMW 02 Series, the ancestor of all generation of the Series 3, was based on a shortened version of the Neue Klasse sedans that were produced between 1962 and 1972.
